Collies were not very popular as pets early in the 20th century, at least until the election of Calvin Coolidge as president. Coolidge grew up on a farm and remained an animal lover all of his life. Did you know that the Shetland Sheepdog (sheltie) who is most responsible for the popularity of the breed could never be shown in today’s confirmation trials?
