Recap of #ALAPW week

There were about 1,000 twitter postings during #ALAPW week (September 19th-25th), much more than the 600 #TweetAPetTues postings. Evidently there was a large ground swell of community support from many dedicated individuals, rescue organizations, bloggers, and from the pet industry at large. The postings peaked on Tuesday Sept. 21st (day 3 of ALAPW) before declining through the rest of the week. Although we are a fragmented and dispersed group of people :) , we are capable of working together towards the common nationwide goal of saving homeless pets. The need could not have been greater than at this time. We did very well indeed!!!

Thanks to everyone who supported the online chat. The STA chat was a chance for interested pet lovers to have their pet adoption questions answered directly. A few people did drop in on the day before the chat started, and some visitors came on the day of the chat which was Wednesday. The fact that it was an all-day drop-in chat made it difficult for us to be around when visitors showed up "unexpectedly". In hindsight, keeping the chat to say 1-hour during the lunch break would have improved this situation. In addition, the 1-hour duration could have made it easier for interested people to "commit" their time out of their busy schedules. It is not often we see people start a chat from Twitter. This could be a first of sorts, maybe?? Much thanks to VoicelessMI & AAR_MI for moderating the STA online chat.
Petfinder and Blogpaws did a great job of organization. All of us can think of individuals and groups who rose to the challenge, and made meaningful contrbutions to #ALAPW week. From spreading the word, to writing articles and announcements, from fundraising, and taking on pets in need of special attention to arranging last-minute transportations.
